The agricultural machinery manufacturer Bednar FMT was founded in 1997 and, as an innovative agricultural technology manufacturer of equipment for soil cultivation, seeding, fertilization and crop residue management, is a newcomer among the existing big players in the industry. The company operates in 35 countries and exports around 90% of its machines worldwide.
Growth requires space. For this reason, Bednar FMT commissioned a new assembly plant in the northern Czech region of Hradec Králové in March 2020. Aim: To make final assembly easier by means of a new material flow concept and assemble agricultural machinery in several steps.
Loads weighing 15 to 500 kg need to be handled in the pre-assembly operation. The subsequent sub-assembly step of the process can involve loads weighing up to 2 t and, in final assembly, loads up to 10 t have to be moved. From the point of view of intralogistics, this means that cranes and handling solutions have to be selected for three different weight classes.
Bednar FMT approached our Sales department in the Czech Republic with this task and, after initial discussions and a visit to our plant in Slaný, the company opted for the Demag intralogistics concept. Nineteen Demag EKKE overhead travelling cranes, each equipped with two traveling hoists (with load capacities of 3.2 and 5 t) and five suspension cranes each on two 62-metre-long crane runways, have been operating in the assembly plant since completion. The overhead traveling cranes can also move large-volume loads thanks to the hoists working in tandem. The two KBK light crane systems are ideally suited to flexible handling of smaller loads.
With our concept, Bednar FMT was able to implement a practical, graduated and, when required, expandable material flow concept from a single source, making it possible to assemble compact machines as well as agricultural machinery with working widths of up to 18 m. This means that our customer can manufacture as desired, flexibly and efficiently on one production line.
With the help of our ergonomic DRC-10 radio control, the operator can use variable long, cross-travel and lifting speeds to handle large loads specifically and with ease. Demag SafeControl provides maximum safety for temporary tandem operation of the cranes and for operation of several cranes on one crane runway. This control system meets Performance Level “c” requirements in accordance with Category 2 for safety-related control functions.
Thanks to the KBKII-H profile section, the modular KBK light crane system can be used for virtually any task in assembly, order picking and shipping areas. The profile section enables loads weighing up to 2 t to be handled, even with large spans.
Assembly of different sizes requires flexibility in production and is supported by our single-girder wall-mounted travelling cranes.
Once the load is attached to the hook, safe load movements can be ensured by SafeControl, especially when moving several crane installations with two trolleys each on one crane runway.
The light crane system with its KBKII-H profile section facilitates material flow between work areas with loads weighing up to 2 t.
Overhead travelling cranes and light crane systems complement each other perfectly to ensure efficient material flow at all times.
Our overhead travelling cranes with spans of up to 18.6 m enable large-volume loads to be handled safely in the assembly of agricultural machinery.
If required, the scope of our equipment can be expanded at any time and integrated into the existing material flow concept.
