Safeguarding You and Your Employees

Safety Inspections

Safeguarding you and your employees

Leave nothing to chance in occupational safety. As an owner of cranes and hoists, electrical installations and equipment, you are responsible for the protection of your staff. Our regular safety inspections improve the security of your equipment. They ensure that hazards, such as personal injury or damaged equipment caused by falling loads, are identified and can be prevented in good time – and that statutory accident prevention regulations are satisfied.

Service for any brand

Regardless of whether you operate Demag equipment or products made by other manufacturers – we aim to ensure fully safe operation. Our highly qualified service specialists are authorised to carry out safety inspections on all types of equipment.

Safety inspection of load handling attachment and lifting accessories

Although they are in constant use, load handling attachments and lifting accessories are frequently taken for granted. However, minor or even invisible damage can have a considerable impact on safety. For this reason, this equipment must be in perfect working condition at all times – and regular inspections are essential.

Leave nothing to chance

State-of-the-art testing, experience and expertise form the basis of our mobile inspection service. All legal requirements are met and only officially approved inspection and testing methods are employed – from load and magnet crack tests to dye penetration tests and visual, dimension and function checks.

Documented safety and reliability

Our inspection technicians compile a record of your load handling attachments and slings and document the inspection process and any results. When the inspection has been completed, you receive official acknowledgement in the form of inspection tags and an inspection report that your load handling attachments and slings meet the relevant legal requirements. Any defects are either repaired direct on site or at our Demag Repair Centre.

Risk assessment

Risk assessment is the key to reducing industrial accidents, occupational disease and work-related illness. It is also decisive for greater efficiency and increased competitiveness. Benefit from our wealth of experience with all types of cranes and hoists for the necessary assessment of risks relating to all aspects or work performed by crane operators and riggers.

Expert evaluation

We can compile risk assessments for the owners of crane installations to assess working conditions as specified in relevant regulations. Our many years of experience and our constantly growing database enable our experts to make a reliable assessment on the basis of the relevant risk specifications.

Legal compliance

European Council Directive 89/391/EEC obliges employers to plan and implement all occupational safety measures necessary to safeguard the health of their employees.

The risk assessment serves to define risks in working areas or at specific workplaces and forms the basis for measures that have to be taken by the owner of an installation. The risk assessment aims to help eliminate causes at their source or to reduce risks by means of technical or organisational measures or by the employees’ personal conduct.

  • Assessments following malfunctions or major changes
  • Assessments at regular intervals
  • Demarcation of areas of activity
  • Discussions with supervisors and equipment operators

SWP calculation

Our SWP calculation provides you with reliable information on the remaining service life of your chain and rope hoists. We calculate the loads lifted by your hoist and the elapsed share of its theoretical duration of service, which enables us to guarantee the remaining safe working period (SWP). These checks can be carried out for any chain or rope hoist brand, since we have extensive experience of all products.

Legal compliance

As an owner and operator of rope and chain hoists, you are required to check them at least once per year according to relevant regulations. The elapsed share of their theoretical safe working period must also be calculated.

Maintaining safety

Safe and reliable load handling is of prime importance in materials handling installations. Ageing and wear, however, can easily result in hazards, which may become highly dangerous if they are not addressed in good time.

Further benefits

  • Reliable and up-to-date information about the remaining duration of service
  • Early detection of hazards caused by material fatigue
  • Efficient planning of measures
  • Early notification of any required general overhaul or replacement

Safety inspection of electrical equipment

We reliably test the integrity of your electrical equipment. In a meeting with you, we will discuss any measures that may be necessary to maintain or restore the safety and reliability of your electrical equipment according to relevant accident prevention regulations and codes of practice. In this way, we help you to ensure compliance with all safety regulations.

Legal background

Employers are obliged to ensure that electrical equipment is in good operating condition before it is put into service and at regular intervals. Electrical equipment as defined by relevant accident prevention regulations includes all equipment that can be used as a whole or as individual parts for the application of electric power or for the transfer, distribution and processing of information. Furthermore, it also includes plant and installations that are created by combining electric equipment. They are considered to be safe if there is no direct or indirect danger of personal injury if they are correctly operated and used as intended. Their "safe condition" also includes any protection required against external factors.

Recommended regular inspections

Inspection intervals must be selected to ensure that any defects that occur can be detected in good time. Property insurers and Demag recommend regular inspections for cranes. The inspection must be carried out by a qualified electrician in accordance with all relevant electrical regulations. Occupational accident insurance organisations, such as the Industrial Employers' Mutual Insurance Association in Germany, also require tests and inspections to be recorded with entries specifying when inspections are carried out.
