The plant engineering company SMS Meer has taken an important step for future growth with the construction of new buildings for production, logistics and offices. In the course of concentrating elements of its business operations at its headquarters in Mönchengladbach, the company also invested in a new heavy-load bay. In this way, the company caters to increased demand in recent years also for high-performance presses, for which bulky and heavy components are produced in Mönchengladbach. For the heavy-load bay, SMS Meer developed an intralogistics concept for the handling and in-house transport of components that weigh up to 180 t. Demag Cranes & Components supplied five overhead travelling and wall-mounted cranes, which have been installed on three operating levels. more...

A great deal of power and sensitivity are needed when turning heavy workpieces, for example, when they are being machined. From the start, it was clear that this can only be done by a crane. Indeed, cranes are still regarded as the most versatile transport system. For this reason, Demag Cranes & Components was given the task of finding a crane configuration that can satisfy these needs. This resulted in the development of a turning crane fitted with a crab that is designed precisely for the given application of turning workpieces. A prime example of ingenuity and precision is now in operation at Polysius AG, where the crane moves crusher parts into the corresponding position for each stage of the process. Together with Polysius, Demag developed an optimum solution in which the components were designed according to the range of crusher parts and arranged on the crane. more...

With the construction of a new assembly factory, REpower Systems AG has also set the course for the future for offshore systems in production. Megawatt class wind power stations are built at the new production site in Bremerhaven and transported to direct their operating site by ship. The company has equipped the facility for the series production of its 5 MW range with cranes from Demag Cranes & Components. Overhead travelling and semi-portal cranes travel on two levels to support efficient assembly of the wind power stations. more...

Three cranes supplied by Demag Cranes & Components are responsible for handling power plant gas turbines and their components in the Berlin gas turbine plant of the Siemens AG Energy Sector and in a building in the Westhafen harbour of the German capital. The cranes meet their owner’s requirements in terms of high load capacities and sensitive handling. They are used in assembly, sand-blasting and in the finishing area. more...

With the delivery and commissioning of the fourth heavy-duty crane for Press Plant II, Demag Cranes & Components has completed modernisation of the crane systems at BMW AG’s facility in Munich. The main reason for the investment in new crane installations was to adapt the load capacities to 50 t and to ensure long-term supplies of spare parts. In continuous operation around the clock every day, the days are in demand for a variety of tasks ranging from the supply of raw materials and the transport of tools to maintenance work. The company also supplied other crane installations for the BMW locations in Dingolfing, Regensburg and Leipzig. more...
